During political discussions, St Charles County is often described as a "Red" county. While it's certainly true that the county leans Republican, a sizable percentage of county residents voted for the Democratic candidate in the last three major elections.

In 2016, Clinton's highest performing precinct was precinct 41 in St Charles city with 49.1% of the votes.
In 2020, Biden won a single precinct, precinct 47 in St Charles city with 50.2% of the votes. Biden also won 53.3% of the absentee vote.
The Valentine-Schmitt US Senate race in 2022 tightened the overall race by only one percentage point but increased the number of precincts won to 15.
There were also Democratic gains in the western part of the county.
